There are tons of protection programs out there that you can pay for, but some of the best protection software around is absolutely free. You can use as many programs as you want to protect your computer, but you don't have to spend a lot of money along the way. The economy currently has most people holding onto every penny in their accounts, leaving little room for expensive security software. If you are dealing with a tight budget, the software programs below may give you some hope for protection without breaking your budget.
MalwareBytes
MalwareBytes is free malware protection software that you can download directly through the internet. I get all of my downloads through cnet.com because those tend to be the most trustworthy ones around. If you download this program to your computer, you will be able to scan it for potential malware threats that could be compromising the integrity of your files. MalwareBytes does take awhile to run, so you may want to leave it going over night or during the day while you are at work. When you get back to the computer, you will be able to see if there are any threats on your computer that you need to be concerned with. Then you can take actions to get rid of the problems from there.
Spybot Search and Destroy
Spybot Search and Destroy is a free program used to find spyware on a computer. It also does a search for malware and adware, but it does not look as thoroughly as MalwareBytes does. Spybot can be annoying at times because it asks for permission for just about everything. Any time you try to download a file, it will ask you if that is something you want to do - usually multiple times over. As frustrating as this may be, it is something that inevitably protects your computer. Beggars can't be choosers at that point.
AdAware
AdAware is similar to MalwareBytes, but it looks for adware instead of malware. If you use this in conjunction with the two software programs listed above, you should be able to detect most of the problems lurking on your computer. These programs work best if you run them separately, so do not try to let them all go at once. You are liable to freeze the computer in the process. Try to run each of them at least once a month if you want to protect your computer well.
Sometimes It Pays to Pay for Software
While the free programs above do a great job of protecting the computer, they do not cover all o the problems you may encounter online. You need to invest in a good internet security system, no matter how many free ones there are out there. Norton, Avast, and Macafee all have problems when it comes to picking up on viruses. Your computer would be better off without them. The senior software engineer for a program like that won't have near the knowledge that one would for a paid software program. Just keep that in mind when you start looking for protection.
I personally use Kaspersky Internet Security, and I absolutely love it. This software is not like other antivirus protection programs. Rather than correcting problems that are already on the computer, Kaspersky prevents them from developing in the first place. It will literally stop web pages from pulling up if it detects a threat present. This can greatly help you protect the files on your computer. Even if this program is a little pricey, it is well worth the money in the end. If you can invest in a program like this on top of the free software mentioned above, you should be able to keep your computer protected well into the future.

Do you think that work order software would work as well?
